From the United States to the world: gospel music has crossed linguistic and cultural boundaries and developed distinct forms in countries such as Japan, Spain, Sweden, and South Africa. We highlight the artists, media, and historical contexts that made this process possible—and together begin to develop the first regional “histories of gospel.”
